Theo Egbele enters his first season as the Wheeling University Women's Soccer Coach in 2021.
Prior to joining Wheeling University, Egbele served as the Head Women's Soccer Coach at Salem University since 2019. During his time with the Tigers, Egbele coordinated outreach programs for student-athletes to participate in community service. Egbele's goals were to focus on community awareness while growing the women's soccer program. Unfortunately, the 2020 season was canceled due to the pandemic, but he continued to lead efforts to get his team out in the community.
He started his coaching career in 2004 when he was named the head coach of the Preston High School Boys Soccer Team, a role he served in until 2006. In his three seasons with Preston High School, Egbele helped the program grow and led them to the section finals for the first time in school history. In addition, his teams ranked as high as #2 in West Virginia during his tenure. He broke into the collegiate ranks one year later as the founder and head coach of the West Virginia University Men's Club Soccer Team in 2007.
He built the program from the ground up, averaging 60 players per season, and had an impressive resume over his 11 seasons as head coach. He led the team to seven division championships and had a career record of 94-25-2 during his tenure. However, the highlight came in 2012 when he led the team to the Region One Championship Final Four.
In 2014, he was named the Director of Operations for the Women's Soccer team at West Virginia University, where he provided support for the top 10 nationally ranked programs. Under his watch, the WVU Women's Soccer team held a number one ranking for eight weeks during the 2016 season. It advanced to the National Championship Match of the NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Tournament, finishing the season as the national runner-up. The team made the NCAA Tournament in all 19 years that Egbele was at WVU and claimed four Big 12 Conference Tournament championships and three regular-season titles.
As a student-athlete, Egbele participated in Men's Soccer, Football, and Men's Track and Field at WVU. He graduated from WVU in 2016 with a Bachelor's Degree in Biometrics System Engineering.
Egbele and his wife, Dr. Nike Egbele, have twins – son, Ezekiel, and daughter, Eliana, who are six.
