Jerod Alltop

Jerod Alltop enters his fourth season as Wheeling Jesuit's assistant women's basketball coach & recruiting coordinator in the 2016-17 season. Alltop has helped revitalize the Cardinal program to three-consecutive winning seasons for the first time since the 2004-2007 campaigns with a record of 61-28 during that time.

Coach Alltop is involved in all facet of the Cardinals program. His main responsibilities include recruiting, post player development, scouting and film breakdown.


In 2015-16, the Cardinals tied the school record for wins (27), finished 2nd in the Mountain East Conference regular season, and won the MEC Tournament Championship. Alltop made his fifth coaching trip to the NCAA tournament and helped Wheeling Jesuit make its first trip since 2006. The Cardinals advanced to the Atlantic Regional semifinals in a season where they led the MEC in Scoring Defense at 60.3 ppg.

The 2014-15 season was a breakthrough year for the Cards, who reached the MEC semifinals and defeated MEC co-champions Shepherd and West Liberty during the regular season. WJU also recorded a victory over MEC champion West Liberty, the first win over its rival since the 2006-07 season.

In the 2013-14 season, Wheeling Jesuit made its first trip to the Conference quarterfinals since the 2009-10 season and posted a home win, 77-74 OT, against eventual MEC Champion Glenville State, which was No. 9 in NCAA Division II and No. 1 in the Atlantic region at the time.

In four years at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Alltop helped guide the Crimson Hawks to an 82-34 record. The Crimson Hawks reached the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Tournament in all four seasons, including a trip to the 2011-12 PSAC Semifinals.  In the 2011-12 season, the Hawks finished  No. 24 in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association poll and had their second-longest winning streak in school history (10).

Alltop served as the recruiting and video coordinator and strength and conditioning coach at IUP, as well as working with the perimeter players. During that time, he helped recruit and developed nine IUP all-conference selections, as well as the 2009-10 PSAC West Freshman of the Year. 

Prior to coming to WJU, Alltop also had a pair of tenures at Glenville State – including two years as a student assistant coach and two seasons as a full-time assistant in addition to a position as a business instructor. 

In Alltop's two seasons as a student assistant coach at Glenville State (2004-05 and 2005-06), the Pioneers made two appearances in the NCAA DII tournament. Glenville State won the 2005-06 West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season title and finished runner-up in the East Region. The team was ranked No. 13 in the final WBCA national poll. 

With most of the same roster in place the following year, the Pioneers rose to as high as No. 2 in the nation and won the East Region title. Glenville State had an overall record of 81-42 in Alltop's four seasons on the staff. 

Alltop spent the 2006-07 season as a graduate assistant coach and director of basketball operations at Marshall University.

He earned his bachelor's degree in Business Management from Glenville State in 2006 and master's degree in Sports Administration from Marshall in 2008.
