Mallory Chapman

Mallory Chapman begins her third season as Head Softball Coach at Wheeling University entering the 2026 season. She previously served four season as an Assistant Coach with the Wheeling University Softball team from 2019 - 2023, before she was named the team's Head Coach prior to the 2024 season.

Just like the previous seasons, 2025 brought growth for the Cardinals as they finished with a 12-42 overall record and a 8-18 Mountain East Conference (MEC) record. The team's non-conference stretch prepared them for MEC play and under Chapman's leadership, the Cardinals won key matchups to clinch the 4th seed in the division to book their tickets to the MEC Tournament for the first time since the 2018 season. Chapman primarily worked with the pitchers, and freshman Kaylin Shields saw tremendous improvement as the season progressed, finishing with 155.0 innings pitched, 108 strikeouts, and a 4.20 ERA. Champman also oversaw sophomore Amber Morgan take home an All-MEC honor with a .405 batting average, two home runs, 23 RBIs, and lead the team in batting average, slugging, on-base percentage, and stolen bases.

In 2024, The Cardinals saw a three-win improvement from the 2023 season under Chapman, finishing 10-44 overall and 4-24 in MEC play. After playing a daunting non-conference schedule, Chapman's team came back and was playing competitive games throughout the conference schedule. From April 7th to April 16th, the team went on a run that saw them split five out of the six doubleheaders they played. Under Chapman's watch, freshmen Grace Mummery and Madison Kay developed into mainstays in the Cardinals lineup during their freshman seasons.

During the 2023 season, the Cardinals saw the growth of some of their young pitchers continue to grow under the watch of Chapman. She handled all of the pitch calling duties for the team and led the staff, to a 7.96 ERA while some young pitchers came into their own in the circle. Sophomore Randi Holder produced a career-low 8.08 ERA over 84.2 innings of work, while pitchers Maria Clark and Tessa Wise each got their first year of collegiate experience.

In 2022, Chapman helped lead the Wheeling pitching staff to a 7.39 ERA over 296 innings of work this past season. She helped Madison Macy pitch to a 4.06 ERA to lead the staff during her senior season. The young Cardinals continued to improve throughout the season and look to come back even stronger in 2023.

Chapman was a four-year member of the Wheeling University Softball team and still holds many of the team's pitching records. She was the MEC strikeout record holder with 682 strikeouts until this past season when Holly Brehm beat the mark. She never had an ERA above 2.20 during her Wheeling career and helped lead the Cardinals to the 2018 MEC Championship game.
