Jared Gillespie is set to join the men’s Lacrosse staff in 2015 after completing an admirable four-year career at Wheeling Jesuit University. Gillespie was previously a three-year starter at close defense for the Cardinals, and will be working with the defense in his first year as a collegiate coach.
Gillespie was a member of the most successful class in program history at Wheeling Jesuit University with a total of 37 wins. In his four-year career with the Cardinals, he scooped up a total of 46 ground balls while being credited with 30 caused turnovers. During his junior year, Gillespie helped lead the cardinals to a 10-3 record and national rankings as high as number 11 in the country, while also upsetting number eight ranked rival Seton Hill 18-12. That year the Cardinals defense finished tenth in the nation in goals against with an average of 7.9. In his senior year campaign, Gillespie helped lead the cardinals to an 8-6 season. He was a key player in the clearing game, aiding in the teams overall clearing percentage of 94%. He was also a critical component of the man down defense that only gave up 12 goals on 62 man down attempts.
Off the field, Gillespie is a three-time Dean’s List honoree, and is also a three-time ECAC All-Academic honors recipient. He graduated from Wheeling Jesuit University in 2015 with a degree in Business Administration, concentrating in Sports Management, as well as obtaining a minor in Criminal Justice.
Gillespie plans to further his education, and will be pursuing his Masters in Business Administration.
