Rich Conwell

Rich Conwell enters his third season as the Head Men's Golf Coach, and second full season as the Head Women's Golf Coach at Wheeling University for the 2024-25 season. He brings with him over 20 years of golf coaching experience and is excited to help the student-athletes reach their goals.

During the 2023-24 season, both the Men's and Women's Golf teams had big moments on the course. The women continued to be one of the top programs in the MEC, taking fourth at the 2023 MEC Women's Golf Championship. Nicole Lincicome was once again the Cardinal's top golfer at the event, taking 17th overall. On the men's side, Conwell brought in a roster of nearly all freshman and they took the first year by storm. The team shot  program record 177 at the Davis & Elkins Invitational, with freshman Ryan Courtney setting the single round record when he shot a 65.

In 2022-23, Conwell led the Wheeling Men's Golf team through a season of growth as their young roster improved on the course. Junior Nick Zaller burst out of his shell under Conwell's tutelage, taking his average from the mid 80's to 79.8 by the end of the fall season. The men finished 10th as a team at the 2022 MEC Men's Golf championships, but Had two finish in the top 35 in the event. During the spring, Alex Parker found his groove, averaging a career-best 82.3 across three spring tournaments.

Conwell joins the Cardinals while also serving as the Wheeling Country Club’s General Manager and PGA Golf Professional. He oversees all aspects of the club’s operation, including golf, golf outings and tournaments, tennis, dinning, and events. Conwell also serves as the club’s PGA Golf Professional, and has been teaching golf to people for over 20 years at various country clubs around the area. Throughout his  coaching career, Conwell has taught one PGA Tour winner, two US Amateur contestants, and several club champions. While working at Shorewood Country Club in New York, Conwell was awarded the PGA Specialty Certification in General Management, making him one of just 9,000 PGA professionals to accomplish this.

Prior to Wheeling Country Club, Conwell served as a PGA Golf Professional at Shorewood Country Club from 2017 to 2021. He served as both a golf pro and general manager for the club and offered lessons while overseeing golf operations.

Conwell is originally from Peters Township, PA. and lives with his wife Kim, a dental hygienist. Together they have two kids Caitlin and Drew.
