Tyler Cheng has joined the Wheeling University men’s basketball coaching staff for the 2024-25 season. Cheng, a native of London, Ontario, comes to Wheeling after ten seasons on the men’s basketball staff at WVU.
At Wheeling, Coach Cheng will assist in all aspects of the program including on-floor coaching, recruiting, opponent scouting, academic monitoring, video, community outreach and day-to-day operations.
During his time at WVU, Coach Cheng earned a reputation as one of college basketball’s foremost experts in advanced stats/analytics. He helped the Mountaineers to six appearances in the NCAA Tournament, including three trips to the Sweet 16,
Prior to joining the Mountaineers, he coached high school, grassroots, and college basketball in his native Canada. Cheng also served as an assistant coach for the Best Virginia entry in the annual TBT during the summer of 2024.
