Tyler Cheng is in his second season as a graduate assistant coach for the Wheeling men’s basketball program. Cheng, a native of London, Ontario, came to Wheeling after ten seasons on the men’s basketball staff at WVU.
At Wheeling, Coach Cheng assists in all aspects of the program including on-floor coaching, opponent scouting, player development, academic monitoring, video, community outreach and day-to-day operations. He also coordinates the Cardinals recruiting efforts and serves as director of the program’s annual Elite Camp.
During his time at WVU, Coach Cheng earned a reputation as one of college basketball’s foremost experts in advanced stats/analytics. He helped the Mountaineers to six appearances in the NCAA Tournament, including three trips to the Sweet 16.
Prior to joining the Mountaineers, he coached high school, grassroots, and college basketball in his native Canada. Cheng also served as an assistant coach for the Best Virginia entry in the annual TBT during the summer of 2024.
