The 2023 season is the second for Trent Koerner as a Graduate Assistant on Ryan Lewicki’s coaching staff. Koerner works primarily with the development of the Cardinal catchers and also the hitters.
During the 2022 campaign, Koerner helped Wheeling to one of their best offensive seasons in program history as they battle for an MEC playoff spot. The catching corps of Garth Charlton, Riley Cameron, and J.R. Heavilin each hit .300 or better as the team had a batting average of .289. They set new program records in doubles, triples, home runs, and runs scored, and Heavilin earned All-MEC First Team honors for his efforts.
As a player, Koerner attended Chesapeake College where he had a combined record of 74-27-1 in his two years. While at Chesapeake, Koerner was a two-time Academic All American and received 2nd team All MD JuCo for the 2018 season, where the team went 45-8. After Chesapeake, Koerner enrolled at Saint Peter’s University where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with his bachelor’s degree in Finance. During the 2019 campaign, Koerner was tied for third in division one with runners caught stealing. Due to COVID, Koerner was granted another year and played at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas.
A native of Sterling, Virginia, Koerner has three sisters, Theresa, Tess, Tristin, and one brother, Ty. He also has one niece, Lucy.
Koerner is studying for his Masters of Business Administration while at Wheeling.
