Ryan Porras enters his second season as a Graduate Assistant on Head Coach Ryan Lewicki's staff during the 2024 season. His primary duties include scouting and working with the Cardinal's bullpen pitchers.
During the 2023 season, Porras oversaw a Cardinal's bullpen that had several strong arms during the season. He helped lead two of those bullpen arms to sub 2.80 ERAs in Jacob Rife (1.73) and Hunter Dyck (2.70). Porras also helped out with defense, hitting fungos during batting practice to help the infielders with their fielding abilities.
Porras played his collegiate baseball at Lyon College, where over the course of two seasons he went 8-6 with a 5.11 ERA over 105.2 innings of work. Porras's best season came during the 2020 COVID shortened season, where he made six starts, going 3-1with a 4.13 ERA over 32.2 innings of work, while walking 17 and striking out 43. Porras earned All-AMC honors that season and was also a member of the AMC Baseball Academic All-Conference Team.
After graduating from Lyon in 2020, Porras was signed by the Tuscon Saguaros of the Pecos League, and played one season for the Saguaros. He helped lead the team to the Pecos League title, appearing in nine games, five starts, while posting a 3.80 ERA over 21.1 innings of work, while walking 22 and striking out 25.
