WHEELING, W.Va. – The No. 3 seeded Edinboro Fighting Scots outlasted the No. 6 seeded Shippensburg Raiders, 3-2, in Fridays’ first match of the 2016 NCAA Atlantic Regional Volleyball tournament.
The two Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) teams exchanged the first four sets, two apiece, before Edinboro claimed the final set, 15-13, clinching a spot in tomorrow’s first quarterfinal match.
Shippensburg secured the first set, 25-14, over Edinboro. The Fighting Scots would bounce back, winning set two 25-17 over the Raiders. Shippensburg jumped back ahead, 2-1, with a 25-19 set three victory while Edinboro sent the match to a fifth set with a 26-24 fourth-set victory. The Fighting Scots clinched their victory with a 15-13
Victoria Severo led Edinboro with 16 kills while hitting .341. Latoya Hutchinson added 13 kills and hit .444. Challen Litwiler dug a team-best 27 attacks.
Annie Goerl finished with 21 kills while Gabrielle Johnson added 13 and Rebecca Pryor 12.
