Wheeling, W. Va. - The Wheeling University women's soccer team will make its 2026 home debut Wednesday afternoon when the Cardinals host Frostburg State at 4 p.m. at Bishop Schmitt Field. The matchup will be Wheeling's fourth game of the season and second Mountain East Conference contest as the Cardinals look for their first win under Head Coach Jaclyn Ketter after opening the year 0-3 overall and 0-1 in MEC play.
The Cardinals are coming off a 2-0 loss to Point Park Sunday afternoon in their conference opener. Wheeling battled the Pioneers to a scoreless draw for nearly 80 minutes before Point Park's Rebecca Pihlgren scored twice in a 90-second span late in the second half. Madison Reis-Elbara made 10 saves in the contest, giving her 20 saves through the first three games of the season. Offensively, Jeanery Diaz remains Wheeling's leading scorer with two goals through the opening three matches.
Frostburg enters Wednesday's matchup with a 2-1 overall record and a 1-0 mark in conference play. The Bobcats opened the season with a 4-0 win over Lake Erie before earning a 2-1 MEC victory over Davis & Elkins. They are coming off a 1-0 loss at Slippery Rock on Saturday.
Wednesday's matchup continues a series that has been controlled by Frostburg, with the Bobcats holding a 10-1-2 all-time record against Wheeling. The Cardinals' lone win came in a 2-0 victory on March 19, 2021, while the teams played to a 1-1 draw in their first meeting of the 2025 season at Bishop Schmitt Field. Frostburg won the return meeting 2-0 in October, snapping Wheeling's two-game unbeaten streak against the Bobcats.
