Wheeling, W. Va. - The Wheeling University women's soccer team will close its season-opening three-game road stint on Sunday when the Cardinals travel to Pittsburgh to take on Point Park at 1 p.m. Both teams enter the matchup in search of their first, as both have started the season 0-2. The Cardinals are 2-2-1 all-time against the Pioneers.

Wheeling will look to bounce back after falling 5-1 at Walsh and 4-1 at Lake Erie to open the season. The Cardinals have shown an ability to create offensive opportunities in the second half of both contests, with Jeanery Diaz scoring in each game. Diaz's two goals currently account for all of Wheeling's scoring through the first two games of the season, giving the sophomore an early offensive role as the Cardinals continue to develop under Head Coach Jaclyn Ketter.

Point Park enters Sunday's contest at 0-2 after suffering a pair of shutout losses to open the year. The Pioneers fell 1-0 at No. 22 Ashland in their most recent contest on August 29, with Ashland scoring the lone goal in the 42nd minute. Point Park was limited to just three shots in the contest, putting all three attempts on goal, while goalkeeper Nicole Kuchinski kept the Pioneers within striking distance with six saves.

For Wheeling, Sunday's game presents another opportunity to put together a complete 90-minute performance. The Cardinals will look to build on their second-half offensive pressure from the first two games while continuing to adjust to a new system under Ketter. With both teams still searching for their first win, the matchup also provides Wheeling with a chance to reverse its recent history against Point Park and gain momentum heading into the home portion of its schedule.

Sunday's matchup will be Wheeling's final road contest before the Cardinals return to Bishop Schmitt Field for their 2026 home opener. Wheeling will host Frostburg State on Wednesday, September 9, at 4 p.m., followed by a matchup with rival West Liberty on September 13. The Cardinals will look to use Sunday's contest as a final tune-up before opening their home schedule next week.
