Wheeling, W. Va. - The Wheeling University Cardinals Women's Golf team is preparing for their first invitational of the season. Tomorrow they will travel to Belle Vernon, PA, for the CAL-U Invitational. This will be the first time since the 2023-24 season that they will attend the CAL-U Invitational.
The longest tenured Cardinals' golfer is junior,
Brielle Milhoan. She averaged a score of 90.88 in 20 total rounds. She led all Cardinals in the Mountain East Conference Spring Classic. The Cardinals brought in a lot of talent through transfers this year, as many of them will make their Cardinals debut tomorrow. The two-time Honorable Mention All-Mountain East Conference (MEC) honoree has placed in the top 20 at the MEC Women's Golf Championships in each of the last two seasons, and will look to lead the Cardinals on the course throughout the season.
Juniors
Tilly Jones and
Dorthea Evebo both transferred in from Dodge City Community College this year. Jones and Evebo will look to capture some of the same success they had last year, as they were both on the Conquistadors' Regional Championship last year. Another transfer is junior
Sawyer Hobbs from Shelton State Community College. She averaged a score of 80.18 through 24 total rounds last year. She was ranked number six in regional rankings and number 13 nationally ranked. Hobbs had two top three finishes in her last year. With the new veteran presence on the team, they look to improve on last year's performances with newfound experience.
The CAL-U Invitational will be hosted at nearby Cedarbook Golf Course in Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania, featuring a strong field of regional teams at the event. The Cardinals will also be playing a new style from previous seasons, playing 36 holes on the opening day, before finishing with 18 holes on Friday to round out the effort. The Cardinals have not played a 36-hole day over the last five years, and will look to handle the heat on the golf course.
Tee time for Saturday's season-opener will be 9 a.m. at Cedarbrook Golf Course in Belle Vernon, Pennyslvania. Follow along with Live Scoring by clicking HERE.
