Wheeling, W. Va. — The Wheeling University women's soccer team returns to the road Wednesday afternoon when it travels to Davis & Elkins for a Mountain East Conference (MEC) matchup. The Cardinals enter the contest at 0-5 overall and 0-3 in MEC play after dropping their first five games of the season, while the Senators sit at 1-3-1 overall and 0-3 in conference play.

Wheeling is coming off a 2-0 loss to West Liberty Sunday at Bishop Schmitt Field. The Cardinals put together 14 shots and six shots on goal, with Sophia Bare leading the way with three shots and two on target. Jeanery Diaz added five shots and two shots on goal, while Maira Alevato recorded two shots and one on target. Madison Reis-Elbara made seven saves in the contest, with Alba Lopez Guerrero playing the final 23 minutes in goal.

Davis & Elkins opened the 2026 season with a 1-0 victory over Seton Hill before playing Tiffin to a 1-1 draw. Since then, the Senators have dropped three straight, including a 1-0 loss to Point Park Saturday. Davis & Elkins put together 10 shots and three shots on goal against the Pioneers, while goalkeeper Gabriela Acevedo made three saves. Point Park scored the lone goal of the match in the 48th minute.

Wednesday marks the 20th all-time meeting between Wheeling and Davis & Elkins, with the Cardinals holding a 9-9-1 record in the series. The teams played to a 2-2 draw last October.

Despite the 0-5 start, the Cardinals have continued to create offensive opportunities, recording at least nine shots in each of their last two matches. Diaz leads the Cardinals with two goals on the season, while Bare, Alevato, Graceylyn Hanna and the rest of the Cardinal attack will look to break through against a Davis & Elkins team that has allowed one goal in each of its last three matches. Wednesday's matchup is set for a 4 p.m. at Nuttall Field.
