CHARLESTON, W.Va—After a historic first round yesterday from the Wheeling University Cardinals men's golf team, they wind up finishing in second place out of 20 teams in the Golden Eagle Invitational. The team shot +27 through the three rounds and was two strokes away from a first-place finish.  

In round three it was freshman Cormac Pearson leading the Cardinals in rankings as he tied for eighth place. Pearson picked up a bogey on the first hole and then followed it with a birdie on hole 3, getting back down to even on the day. He went back to +1 after a bogey on hole six and finished the front nine one over par. The back nine proved to be no challenge for the freshman as he shot par on every remaining hole.  

Graduate student Sean Dobson finished day four over par and solely secured 12th place. He finished the whole tournament shooting four over par as well. Dobson shot two bogeys on holes one and three. He came back and picked up a birdie on hole four to finish one over par on the front nine. On the back nine he picked up two bogeys and one double bogey. On hole 16 he was able to get another birdie to lower his score.  

Finishing tied for 15th place is sophomore Lodin Femoen. Femoen shot nine over par in round three and finished the tournament six over par. He shot five over par on the front nine, shooting three bogeys and a double bogey. Femoen finished the back nine four over par.  

Rounding out the Cardinals top four is sophomore Elias Ekenes-Fosback. Ekenes-Fosback shot six over par in round three and finished 13 over par in the invitational. He shot two birdies on holes four and six. He finished the front nine two over par. In the back nine he picked up two bogeys and one double bogey, finishing the back nine four over par.  

The Cardinals will be back in action September 21 and 22 for the Charleston Invitational following the strong first performance.
