Trio Pass Rounds out 2026 at MEC Event Finals

Fairmont, W. Va. - Ahead of the 2026 Mountain East Conference (MEC) Acrobatics & Tumbling Championship match, the top event groups from across the conference met inside Joe Retton Arena for the 2026 MEC Acrobatics & Tumbling Event Finals. The Wheeling University Acrobatics & Tumbling team was represented for the second year in a row as their Trio Pass qualified with the third highest event average on the season. The trio pass championship would end up going to Fairmont State, but the Cardinals rounded out the season with a strong performance on the mat.

Representing the Cardinals was sophomore Gianna Bjorn, sophomore Gabriella Jantz, and junior Savannah Polous. The trio had competed in the event throughout the season for the Cardinals, with Bjorn being the only Cardinal who had experience on the championship mat. It would be the fourth to last event to compete on the day, and the Cardinals were up first on the mat. The trio would run out and went into a cartwheel, before doing a pair of summersaults and finishing with an in-air flip. They finished to thunderous applause from the crowd before Glenville State and Fairmont State took the mat. The teams would wait through one of the longest deliberations of the day by the judges, but in the end Fairmont State would take the MEC Trio Pass title. It was a strong showing on the mat for the Cardinals as they finished the 2026 season strong.

The Wheeling University Acrobatics & Tumbling team now heads into the off-season as they continue their growth on the mat.
