Wheeling, W. Va. - With snow rolling through the Ohio Valley on Monday and Tuesday, the Wheeling Athletics Department schedule has gone through changes. After Wheeling Men's Lacrosse was forced to postpone their game on Tuesday, the Wheeling University Softball team was the latest program to have their schedule effected. The team announced Tuesday that their midweek doubleheader with Cedarville, originally scheduled for Wednesday, has been postponed and will be made up on a date to be announced.
The Cardinals are coming off their weekend at the Mountain East Conference/Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Crossover, where the Cardinals went 1-3 across the four-game set. Wheeling started out the weekend with their second meeting of the season with IUP, falling in a 9-0 match-up. They would bounce back in game two against CAL-U with both starting pitchers commanding the circle. The Vulcans would end up getting the better of the Cardinals with a 2-1 win, but Sunday would provide new life for the Cardinal offense. They would open with Winston-Salem State, and the Cardinals scored a season-best 12 runs in a 12-6 win over the Rams. The weekend would round out in extra innings for the Cardinals, with the team clashing with Pitt-Johnstown. The game would go to extra innings, but in the end, the Cardinals fell 4-0 to round out the weekend.
The Wheeling University Softball team returns to action on Saturday, March 21st, when they take on Point Park with first pitch at 1 PM.
