Wheeling, W. Va. – Throughout the early afternoon and evening snow blanketed the Ohio Valley on Monday ahead of a cold front. Due to the snow covering Bishop Schmitt Field, the Wheeling University Men's Lacrosse team has announced that their game against Seton Hill has been postponed. The Cardinals and Griffins will play a make-up game on Monday, March 23rd , when they host Seton Hill at 5 PM inside Bishop Schmitt Field.
The Cardinals are coming off their biggest win of the season so far when they hit the road to face Lake Erie. It was a back and forth game throughout the day, with the lead changing hands three times throughout the night. Wheeling would strike first in the first quarter, and never held more than a one-goal lead. The two teams traded goals until the score sat at 2-2, when Lake Erie picked up back-to-back goals to take a 3-2 lead. Wheeling would quickly fire back with two goals of their own, and the teams went back and forth the rest of the way. At the end of regulation, the game sat tied at 7-7 and the teams would head to a sudden death overtime. It would come down to the final two and a half minutes of play, as the Cardinals moved the ball into the offensive zone. Jack Rowe connected with Zach Bridenbaker, who took it the rest of the way and put it into the back of the net. It gave the Cardinals their first Great Midwest Athletic Conference win of the season, as they look to get momentum rolling into April.
The Wheeling University Men's Lacrosse team will return to the field on Saturday, March 21st, when they host Thomas More at 4 PM.
