Schedule Change: Baseball Moves Up Home Opening Weekend in Wake of Weekend Weather Forecast

Wheeling, W. Va. - As the February schedule rolls on for the Wheeling University Baseball team, February weather has once again took a toll on the team's schedule. On Wednesday, the team announced a change to their upcoming home opener schedule at GoMart Ballpark, moving the series up a day. The Cardinals will now host Mansfield University for a single, nine-inning game on Friday night, followed by a split 7-9 doubleheader on Saturday to round out the series.

Weather would also impact the Cardinal's schedule a week ago, when they traveled to Petersburg, Virginia for a rain-shortened two-game series against Virginia State University. It was a series dominated by starting pitching, with neither Cardinal starter allowing a run during their time on the mound. It would begin with Sebastian Khan taking the mound in game one, and throwing his first complete game of the season, allowing just two hits while walking one and facing just three batters over the minimum in the team's 3-0 win. In the second game of the series, Dom Carlson took the ball for his second start of the year, and threw 5.0 hitless innings in the effort. The redshirt sophomore would allow just three base runners in his 5.0 innings, rounding out the strong efforts. The Cardinal offense did their part, getting both pitchers early leads, and scoring seven runs between the two efforts.

The Cardinal's will begin their three-game weekend set with Mansfield on Friday, February 20th, with first pitch at 6 PM inside GoMart Ballpark.
