The Wheeling Men's Swimming Team returned to action today as they travelled to Salem, West Virginia for the WV Small College State Games. Just one week after dominating the relay meet also hosted by Salem, the Cardinals once again showed their pace as they rose to the top once more.

Although not strictly a relay meet this week, the Small College State Games opened with the 200 Medley Relay. The Cardinals took solver to open the meet, as the team of Enzo Crouzet, Maxenz Wassenhove, Benjamin Szanto, and Nathaniel Olivares swam a 1:38.58. Wheeling would take first and second in the 50 back, as Enzo Crouzet claimed another gold ahead of Aris Dimakis by just under five tenths of a second with a time of 24.83.

The 50 yard breaststroke was the next to produce a medal for Wheeling, as Nikola Zhekov swam a 27 flat to fall just short by four tenths of a second. The gold was never far away for the Cardinals however, as Benjamin Szanto won the 100 butterfly by over a second. Four Cardinals rounded out the top five for the 100 fly, with Meiko Schonekes, Bence Nagy, and Enzo Crouzet claiming third, fourth, and fifth respectively.

The 200 IM would be where Wheeling really showed their dominance. The Cardinals had 6 swimmers in the top seven of the event, as Nikola Zhekov took gold swimming a 1:58.95. Enzo Crouzet would continue his fine form in the following race, the 100 backstroke, with a time of 53.61 to take Gold. Wheeling would add another silver and bronze in the 100 freestyle through Benjamin Szanto and Michal Rzyski, before Bence Nagy won the 500 freestyle by just over seven seconds with a time of 4:50.40.

Wheeling clocked 929.5 points in the event, with their closest challengers Davis & Elkins finishing at 328. The Wheeling University Men's Swimming team will return to action on October 10th, when they meet with Frostburg State University and West Virginia Wesleyan.
