New Concord, OH. – On a sunny Saturday morning, the Wheeling University Men's Cross Country team spent the day out on the farm. They ran at the Morehead Farm in New Concord, Ohio for the Muskingum Invitational, running in their second run of the season. The Cardinals would pick up a top five finish, their first of the season, in a short field of 25 runners.
Leading the effort was sophomore Redick Moore, who was the Cardinal to finish in the top five of the event. Moore would run a time of 32:07.3, finishing fifth overall on the event, and just three minutes off the pace of the top runner in the field. In a field of all NCAA DII teams, Moore once again battled through a hilly course at Morehead Farm, similarly to what he will have to battle at the MEC Championships. With one more race to go before that championship event, Moore is looking to have one more solid run before facing off against the best in the conference.
The rest of the field for the Cardinals would be members of the Track & Field team helping out on the Cross Country course. Leading the way for the track portion of the event was Dallas Gambrell, who finished 19th with a time of 47:55.5. He was followed right behind by Conner Black, who competed in his second career Cross Country race, with a time of 47:58.3. In 23rd was Izaiah Taylor, with a time of 49:56.2, while Jacob Legg took 25th with a time of 1:14.52.
The Wheeling University Men's Cross Country team returns to action on Saturday, October 10, when they run at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational.
