Wheeling, W. Va. - As they come down the stretch towards the 2026 Mountain East Conference (MEC) Wrestling Championships, the Wheeling University Wrestling team (5-1, 3-1) is gearing up to face the best of the best. Due to some injuries, the team has announced a change to their upcoming schedule effecting this weekend's contest. The Cardinals will no longer travel to Sunday's Purple Raider Open, and will shift their focus to the Seton Hill Tri-Meet on Tuesday, January 20th.
Last time out, the Cardinals hosted their annual Tri-Match event as they welcomed in Waynesburg and Davis & Elkins College. After watching the Yellow Jackets and Senators battle it out in the first dual, Wheeling would take the mat for the first time against Davis & Elkins. The young Cardinal wrestlers led the way, with the Cardinals winning five of the 10 matches by tech fall, and went on to win by the final score of 40-12. In the second dual of the day, the Cardinals battled Waynesburg University and once again the Cardinals battled. It would be pins by Bradley Spencer (0:19) and Gavin Harper (2:30) that led the way, and a tech fall by Jack Dinwiddie would round out the leaders. Wheeling would win the dual 41-15, closing out a 2-0 night on the wrestling mat.
The Wheeling University Wrestling team returns to action on Tuesday, January 20th, when they compete at the Seton Hill Tri-Match beginning at 6 PM.
