Dobson’s Second Place Finish Leads Cardinals on Day Two of Stonewall Classic

Charleston, W. Va. – The final day of the Stonewall Invitational played out on Tuesday with the third round of action. The Wheeling University Men's Golf team would fall two spots in the team standings, finishing seventh overall with a three-day total of 922. The Cardinals finished with two golfers in the top 30 of the event, including one who was able to crack the event's top five.

It would be graduate student Sean Dobson who hit the mark, taking second overall while shooting 75 (+3) in round three. He started his day slow on hole five, but bounced back with three straight pars on 6, 7, and 8. As he hit the turn, he would have his best performance of the day on the back nine, starting with a birdie on hole 10. He would hit par on each of the final eight holes of the back nine, shooting a –1 before going to the front nine to finish his day. He would add two more par on holes one and two, and then finished his day with his second birdie of the round on hole four to take one final stroke off his score. He would finish at +3 for the round and finished out his event at 219 and finished tied for second among Mountain East Conference (MEC) golfers at the event, tying with Davis & Elkins's Luke Pavicich.

The other Cardinal to crack the top 30 was fellow graduate student Troy Loughry, who shot 75 (+3) to bring his three-round score to 230. He was able to sit even through the first eight holes of his day, before hitting bogey on hole 15. However, he balanced it out with two more birdies and another bogey, and finished even on the back nine. He would add one more birdie on the front nine and finished out at +3 for the round, finishing 28th in the field. Rounding out the Cardinal's top three was Lodin Femoen, who finished 43rd in the field shooting 236. The final round was his highest score of the event, but his work on the front nine was the highlight of the day. He would shoot +3 through the front nine holes, hitting par on seven of nine, before adding a +7 on the back nine to round out the day.

Rounding out the team portion of the scoring for the Cardinals was Elias Ekenes-Fosback, who finished tied for 66th, shooting an 82 on the final round. He would hit two birdies in the round, one on each of the nines, with his best showing coming in the form of a +5 on the front nine. Zak Collins would match Ekenes-Fosback's effort, shooting a 247 across the three rounds and an 83 on the final day. Luke Wennberg rounded out the event for the team, shooting a 94 in round three, and taking 74th overall with a 252 for the event.

The Wheeling University Men's Golf team returns to action on Monday, September 22nd, when they head to the Hannastown Invitational, which they will co-host with CAL-U.
