Wheeling, W. Va. – Rains that have moved through the area on Saturday have caused a change to the Wheeling University Baseball team's upcoming schedule. Their doubleheader against Salem originally scheduled for Sunday, April 6th, has been moved to Monday, April 7th, at Salem. As a result of the move the team's non-conference midweek game against Cedarville on Tuesday, April 8th, has been canceled.
The Cardinals and Tigers opened their four-game series on Friday, with the Cardinals being swept in the doubleheader. Game one saw Salem's pitching have the upper hand on Wheeling, holding them off the board in the seven-inning affair. The Cardinals would threaten throughout the game, having at least one base runner in six of the seven innings, but in the end they weren't able to push across a run. The Cardinals would fall to Salem 10-0 and looked to bounce back in the second game. It was a much close game, with the Cardinals getting as close as 4-3 with a three-run bottom of the fifth. However, Salem would once again put the game out of reach with a three-run bottom of the sixth that lifted them to a 6-4 win.
The final two games of the series will be played at Salem on Monday, April 7th, with first pitch at 1 PM.
