Wheeling Women’s Lacrosse has Four All-MEC Honorees as They Prepare for MEC Semifinals

Wheeling, W. Va. - It was a big weekend for the Wheeling University Women's Lacrosse team (7-7, 4-3) as they won their first Mountain East Conference (MEC) Tournament game since the 2018 season. The honors kept coming for the team as the MEC announced their Women's Lacrosse All-MEC honors, and the Cardinals had four players honored in their start-up season. Midfielder Trinity Rose would lead the way, earning First Team All-MEC honors, while Jovie Noack and Klara Domachowska each took Second Team All-MEC honors and Giavonna Perkins rounded out the awards with a spot on the MEC All-Freshman team.

Leading the list of Cardinal honors was Trinity Rose, who was an impact player for the Cardinals on both sides of the ball. During the season, Rose has been a regular contributor on both sides of the ball. She sits as the team's leader in both goals (43) and points (55) while sitting third on the team with 12 assists. As good as her offense has been, it has been her defense that has risen above everything else. She set the Cardinal's single-season record in ground balls (69), caused turnovers (53), and draw controls (86) being a major player for the team in the midfield. She leads the MEC with her 69 ground balls, while sitting top five in Caused Turnovers, draw controls, goals, and points. She has scored four or more goals in three of the team's 14 games this season and looks to continue leading the Cardinals into their semifinal matchup.

The two Second Team All-MEC honorees for the Cardinals were Jovie Noack and Klara Domachowska, who each helped lead the Cardinal offense. Noack was the team's second leading goal scorer, finishing with 31 points, and sat tied for 2nd with 67 points. She started the season with a bang, setting the single-game record with 10 goals in the team's season-opener against Allegheny and continued gaining momentum from there. She scored at least one goal in all but one of the team's games this season to bring home the honor. Klara Domachowska would round out the second team honorees, sitting as the team's leader with 14 assists this season. She also added 23 goals to finish with 37 points and, like Rose was also a key contributor on defense. She finished with 10 caused turnovers and 25 groundballs to round out her strong season.

Along with the All-MEC honors, the MEC also recognized seven outstanding freshman across the conference for their contributions to their teams this season. Earning the honor as the top freshman goalkeeper was Giavonna Perkins, who earned a spot on the MEC's All-Freshman team. Perkins would appear in 10 games for the Cardinals this season, making 73 saves on 146 shots faced to finish with a .500 save percentage for the season. She would set a season high when she finished with 18 saves on 26 shots faced in the Cardinal's 13-8 win over Davis & Elkins back on March 26th. Her 73 saves ranks fifth in the conference, sitting ten saves behind her teammate Maisy Latus. Perkins would appear in 10 games for the Cardinals, making six starts as she took advantage of her opportunities.

With four more All-Conference honorees added to the list, the Wheeling University Athletic Department has now had 47 players earn All-Conference distinction this season. It was the most honorees for the Women's Lacrosse team sine they equaled that four honoree total during the 2019 season. The Spring sports have now brought home six total All-Conference honorees, with the Wheeling Women's Golf team being the latest to be honored with two earning All-Conference honors.

The Wheeling University Women's Lacrosse team returns to action on Thursday, May 1st when they take on #1 seeded Frostburg State in the MEC Semifinals with opening draw at 2 PM.
