Wheeling, W. Va. – After announcing that their Wednesday doubleheader was cancelled earlier in the day, wet weather forced the team to make another schedule change to their weekend plans. The team's doubleheader against Fairmont State originally scheduled for Saturday, April 19th, has been moved to Thursday, April 17th, at 1 PM. The team's Friday doubleheader remains unchanged as they will travel to Frostburg State at 1 PM.
The team is coming off a weekend where they split their four-game stretch against West Virginia Wesleyan and Davis & Elkins. The weekend started out strong for the Cardinals, with two exciting games on Saturday against the Bobcats. With the Cardinals trailing 4-2 heading into the bottom of the 7th in game 1 they would tie the game with two runs and send it to overtime. It took 10 innings but the Cardinals were able to walk it off on a Keke Warrix double that gave the Cardinals a 6-5 win. Game two would also come down to the final inning with the score sitting tide at 6:06 in the bottom of the 6th. However, the Cardinals were able to push across a run and Kaylin Shields picked up the save as the Cardinals won 7-6. Day two would see the Cardinals get swept by Davis & zElkins to complete the split of the weekend.
The Wheeling University Softball team returns to action on thursday, April 17th, when they hit the road to face Fairmont State at 1 PM.
