Men’s/Women’s Swimming Earns CSCCA Scholar All-America Team Award

Wheeling, W. Va. - Every year, the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association (CSCCA) announces their yearly team and individual athlete Scholar All-America honors as well as their Scholar All-American Team Award. After a record year in the pool during the 2024-2025 season, the Wheeling University Men's and Women's Swimming teams continued that success into the classroom. Both programs were named CSCCA Scholar All-America Teams for the 2024-2025 season, with the Women's program posting a team GPA of 3.6, while the men posted a team GPA of 3.48.

In order to qualify as a CSCCA Scholar All-America Team, a team must produce a team grade point average of 3.0 during the Fall 2024 semester. In total, the CSCAA has honored over 1,000 programs across all three levels of the NCAA, with 654 of those schools posting GPA's of 3.30 or higher. Those schools that achieved a 3.30 GPA or higher get the distinction of being moved up to the Intercollegiate Coach Association Coalition All-Sport Academic Standings. Four of the five Mountain East Conference (MEC) programs were represented on the list, with Fairmont State (M/W), Davis & Elkins (M/W), and West Virginia Wesleyan (W) joined Wheeling on the list. The Cardinals had the highest GPA in the conference on the Men's side and placed second on the Women's side.

The Wheeling University Men's Swimming team has had a historic season in the pool, and that success continued into the classroom. As a team, the Cardinals had their biggest roster since the rebuild of the program, with 13 swimmers taking the pool. That group would come together to record a 3.48 Team GPA, setting them as the second highest team GPA among MEC competitors. It also serves as one of the top GPA's among the entire NCAA DII, setting them at #9 overall in the division, and putting them 0.49 above their GPA from the winter semester. Along with their success in the classroom, the Cardinals also put together a historic year in the pool, tying the single season program win record, going 9-5 in 14 dual meet events this season.

Like the Men's Swimming team, the Wheeling University Women's Swimming team also had a strong season in the pool. The Cardinals produced an identical 9-5 record to the men, and fell just one win shy of their program record of 10 wins. The Cardinals had 12 women's swimmers take the pool this season, for a combined GPA of 3.6 for the semester. setting them as the highest team GPA among MEC competitors. The GPA also ranks in the top 25 among all Women's Programs in NCAA DII and sits 0.05 points higher than their team GPA from the spring. The Cardinals head into the 2025 MEC/GMAC Championships looking to compete for at least the top spot in the MEC this season.

The Wheeling University Men's and Women's Swimming teams return to action on Wednesday, February 12th, when they compete on Day 1 of the 2025 GMAC/MEC Championships.
