Wheeling, W. Va. - After a big dual meet win over Davis & Elkins to start the month, the Wheeling University Wrestling team was set for their final tune-up at the John Carroll Invitational on Sunday. However, due to injuries and bumps and bruises on the team, the Cardinals have pulled out of the event as they rest up for Regionals. The Cardinals will now turn their focus to that Super Regional 1 Tournament on Saturday, March 1st beginning at 9 AM.
The Cardinals are coming off a big finish to their dual meet season as they honored their seniors against Davis & Elkins. The Cardinals would win seven of the 10 matches on the night, with four of those seven wins coming by either tech fall or pinfall. Angelo DiPol would lead the way, earning his first win of the season with a pin at the 6:13 mark, while Isaac Valdez added the other pin at the 2:56 mark of his match. Brent Bosley (125) and Austin Hinzman (184) were the two Cardinals to pick-up tech fall wins, with Bosley winning 19-3 and Hinzman winning 17-1 to round out the day. The Cardinals would beat the Senators 40-16, finishing their dual meet schedule at 4-1 to earn an over .500 record in dual meets for the first time since the 2019 season.
The Wheeling Wrestling team returns to action on Saturday, March 1st, when they head to the NCAA DII Super Regional 1 Tournament.
