Erie, P.a- The Wheeling University Women's Swimming team (9-5), (2-1) rode on I-79 to compete in the PSU Behrend Tri-Meet. The women swam hard, taking home 11 medals, but they fell to Alfred State College 166-108 and PSU Behrend 163-116.
The Cardinals started the day off positively, earning second place in the 200-yard Medley Relay consisting of Jade Miller and Sofia Gonzalez-Bernal. Lydie Sprecher, and Lacie Langyer. Their day would end with another team effort in the 200-yard Freestyle, placing third with the effort from Ana Noguera, Gabby Baiano, Sofia Castillo, and Grace Moorley.
Gabby Baiano kicked off the women's individual events with an impressive victory in the 1,000-yard Freestyle, swimming a time of 11:05.16 and 30 seconds ahead of the runner-up. Fellow Cardinal Grace Moorley would ensure that two Wheeling swimmers finished in the top three as she secured third place. Baiano placed again in the 200-yard Butterfly, seconding at 2:16.74.
Jade Miller earned two additional silver medals in the 100 and 200-yard Backstroke, recording times of 1:12.98 and 2:37.75. The senior would place third in the 200-yard Individual Medley, finishing at 2:21.11. Bernal would compete against Miller in the 100-yard Backstroke with a third-place finish, just a second behind her teammate. To round out the day, Lydie Sprecher picked up a bronze in the 200-yard Freestyle (2:07.79), and Lacie Langyer would also place third in the 500-yard Freestyle (5:38.79).
The Wheeling University Women's Swim team will be preparing for the GMAC/MEC Conference Championships, which are scheduled to begin on February 11 and continue until the 15th in Caton, Ohio.
