Emma Reynolds Lands Thanksgiving Cardinal High Flyer of the Week Honor

Wheeling, W. Va. - The Thanksgiving week was a time for Wheeling University student-athletes to spend with family and friends and be thankful for all of the blessings in their lives. With just one team in action during the week, the Wheeling Athletic Department announced it's weekly Cardinal High Flyer of the Week award, with the women being the lone award handed out. It went to Wheeling Women's Basketball player Emma Reynolds, who earned the Female High Flyer of the Week award after leading the Cardinals on both sides of the ball.

The Cardinal's Women's Basketball team would play the lone game of the week, as they took on Ohio Dominican on November 26th in non-conference action. It would be a defensive battle between the two teams throughout, with neither being able to get over the 60-point mark in the effort. In the first half, the two teams would go back and forth, with Ohio Dominican holding a one-point scoring advantage in each quarter. They would lead 14-13 after the first and headed into the locker room with a 25-23 lead, with both teams shooting just over 40% from the floor. However, the Cardinals were held to just a 30.77% mark from the floor in both the third and fourth quarters, and Ohio Dominican took advantage. A pair of late runs in the third and fourth quarter were enough to down the Cardinals as they fell 55-43 to round out the effort.

Emma Reynolds is taking home the first Cardinal High Flyer of the Week award of her career, after being a leader on both sides of the ball. She was the Cardinal's most efficient shooter from the floor, going 5-9 (55.5%) and adding a 1-2 mark from three-point range. She would finish as the team's second leading scorer, putting up 11 to reach the double-digit mark for the second time in her career. On the defensive end, she would be the Cardinal's leader on the boards, finishing with eight rebounds, while also leading the team with one block and finishing second with two steals. It was the continuation of a strong freshman season for Reynolds, who sits second on the team with 6.4 rebounds/game and four blocks, while sitting third with an average of 9.8 PPG.

Reynolds is the second Wheeling University Women's Basketball player to take home Cardinal High Flyer of the Week honors this season. She joins teammate Kenzie Dalton, who was honored during the team's opening weekend of action back in mid-November. Last week, it was the Wheeling Swimming team that took the honors, with Aris Dimakis and Lacie Langmyer being honored for their work in the pool at the Malone Midseason Invitational.

The next Wheeling University Athletic event is scheduled for Wednesday, December 3rd, when the Wheeling Women's Basketball team hosts Point Park with tip-off at 5:30 PM.
