Canton, OH. – After a strong opening to the 2025 Malone Midseason Invitational, the Wheeling University Women's Swimming team was back in the pool for day two of the event on Friday. The Cardinals flooded the A Finals, with five swimmers competing in the top swim for their individual events, as the Cardinals maintained their top five spot on the field. They sit third after two days of competition, thanks to a strong push from their sprint swimmers to lead the way.
The biggest event of the day was the Women's 200-Yard Freestyle, which saw two different Cardinals swim in the A Final of the event. Leading the effort was Lacie Langmyer, who took fourth overall in the field, swimming a time of 1:58.13. It was a continuation of her strong performance from the opening day of competition, where she took home the team's lone individual event championship of the event so far. She finished just five seconds off the pace of the top spot in the field and looks to continue her push. Joining her in the A Final swim was Grace Moorley, who finished seventh with a time of 2:01.43. Although she didn't swim in the A Final, senior Gabby Baiano would also pick up a top 10 finish in the event, taking the top spot in the B Final. She would take home a 9th place finish with a time of 2:00.28.
The top individual finish of the day came from Giulia Liberti, who competed in the 100 Yard Breaststroke. She would finish third in the field with a time of 1:08.60. it was her second top five finish of the event as she continues to be a leader in the pool for the Cardinals. She would be joined by Sofia Gonzalez, who swam in the C Final of the event. She would finish 21st with a score of 1:54.14 to round out the event. The next event would be the 100-Yard Backstroke, where the Cardinals had their final A Final swim of the day. It would be Niki Chrysafi taking the pool, finishing seventh overall with a time from 1:01.08. Mikayla Smitley would round out the event, swimming in the C Final. She would place 18th with a time of 1:0529 as she rounded out the short distance events as the Cardinals sprint swimmers took the lead.
The final individual swimmers would come in the 200 Freestyle, with Cardinals swimming in the B Final. Caitlin Oltman would lead the group, finishing 11th with a time of 2:02.44, while Sofia Garcia would finish 13th with a time of 2:08.34. Just like the first day of competition, the Cardinals would once again swim in two different relay events. The day would open with the 200-Yard Medley Relay, where the Cardinals finished third overall. Chrysafi, Liberti, Sprecher, and Grace Moorley would take the pool and swam a time of 1:49.63 to kick off the day. The day would come to an end in the 800 Meter Freestyle Relay, where the Cardinals finished third overall once again. Baiano, Oltman, Langmyer, and Moorley swam a time of 8:11.21 and they rounded up the event
The Wheeling University Women's Swimming team returns to action for day three of the Malone Invitational with first swims at 9:30 AM.
