Wheeling WV. - After a huge win on Wednesday Wheeling (3-6-4), (1-5-4) heads to Fairmont, West Virginia to take on the Fairmont State Falcons (10-1-2), (8-1-2). Wheeling's 10-0 victory is their biggest win since October 18th, 2023 where they beat Salem 11-0 at Bishop Schmidt Field.

Gracelynn Hanna led the Cardinal charge Wednesday scoring the first goal of the game off an assist from her sister, Lily Hanna. Lily Hanna would finish with 2 assists and a goal of her own. Gracelynn Hanna came away with 1 assist and her first collegiate hat trick. Jeanary Diaz came off the bench and was a perfect 2 shots on goal for 2 goals scored. Those were Diaz's first collegiate goals. Jersey Scyoc added her first collegiate goal as well on Wednesday.

Diaz was a big recruit coming in for the Cardinals this season. Unfortunately, she got injured in preseason and missed the first 5 games of this season. Since then she has played in every game for the Cardinals. Wheeling lost 60% of games when Diaz was injured, and have double the wins in games where Diaz has played than games she has not played in.

Wheeling is in the midst of a playoff push in their 4 remaining games this season. Their magic number to clinch is down to 2. Wheeling needs either 2 more wins, 2 West Liberty conference losses, or 1 of each. The final regular season game is at home against West Liberty but the Cardinals don't want to wait that long to clinch. These last 4 games are in order of current standings in the north, and will be huge for taking momentum into the playoffs.

The last game against Fairmont St. this season finished in a 1-1 tie. Wheeling's defense played spectacularly that game, keeping the Falcons out of the net for the first 89 minutes. Fairmont was able to keep possession in the Wheeling half for most of the game, compiling 37 total shots. With 9 seconds left a slight crack in the Cardinal defense allowed the Falcon goal. Wheeling has a very real shot at stunning the Falcons, but will have to keep the ball in the Fairmont half a little longer to take some pressure off of the back line.
