Norlin’s Pair of Wins Earns MEC Swimmer of the Week Honors

Wheeling, W. Va. - For the first time in program history, the Wheeling University Men's Swimming team is off to a 2-0 start to their Mountain East Conference (MEC) schedule. On Monday, the conference released their weekly Swimmer of the Week honors, presented by The Healthplan, and the Cardinals were recognized for the second week in a row. Freshman swimmer Felix Norlin earned Male Swimmer of the Week honors, after leading the Cardinals with two wins at the tri-meet sweep.

Norlin would compete in four different events for the Cardinals, two of those in relay events and two of those in individuals. He was a part of two of the team's seven wins, while helping both relay teams earn top three finishes at the event. In the relay events, he would start his day as the second leg of the 200-Meter SC Medley Relay, and helped the Cardinals to a 2nd place finish with a time of 1:49.71. In the final event of the day, he would move back to the third leg of the 200-Meter SC Freestyle Relay and the Cardinals would take third with a time of 1:41.88. He has swam in four of the five relay races this season, helping the Cardinals finish 6th or better in each of those races. However, it was his work in the individual events that earned him the honors.

He was one of three Cardinal swimmers to win multiple events on the day, starting his day off in the 200-Meter Short Course Freestyle. He would take the top spot in the field with a time of 2:04.50, as he picked up a two second win over his teammate. Four events later, he came back for the 100-Meter Short Course Breaststroke, and would take top honors for the second time today. He would put up a time of 1:08.03, this time earning a win by three seconds, to round out his day. Breaststroke has been Norlin's top event this season, swimming in a combination between short and mid-distance this season. He looks to continue to be a force in the short distance events as the Cardinals continue their dual meet schedule.

With Norlin's win, Wheeling has now had 16 student athletes earn conference player of the week honors in 2025-2026. He is the second Wheeling Men's Swimmer to earn the award, joining teammate Segmen Duygun, who won the honors after the WVU Games. Last week, the Cardinals had three players honored, with Wheeling Football's Conor Fitzpatrick, Volleyball's Mara McDougal, and Men's Swimmer Segmen Duygun all winning awards.

The Wheeling University Men's Swimming team returns to action on Wednesday, October 15th, when they swim at the Washington & Jefferson try meet with first swims at 6 PM.
