Wheeling, W. Va. - On August 30th, Manchester High School will debut its brand-new football field, and with it the 2024 Class of the Manchester Athletics Hall of Fame. Among the classes five inductees is Wheeling University Head Wrestling Coach Shane Brown, who graduated from Manchester High School in the class of 2011. Brown and his fellow inductees will be enshrined prior to the first home football game at the new stadium on August 30th, 2024.
Brown was a two-sport athlete at Manchester High School, playing as a member of the Panthers' football and wrestling teams. During his four years in the red and black, Brown would qualify for the Ohio High School state wrestling championships twice, taking home a district title during his senior season. Also, during that senior year, Brown helped lead the Panthers to the Sectional Championship, earning the sectional championship in the 140LB weight class. It would be the third of three sectional titles that Brown earned during his Panther career, capping off a historic run. Brown holds the Manchester High School record for most pins, most wins, most takedowns, and most escapes over his four seasons.
Brown joined the Wheeling Wrestling program during the 2022-2023 season and has elevated the program over his four seasons. In 2023-2024, the team had its biggest roster since the return of the program, with 14 wrestlers, and had three wrestlers take home top five finishes, the most placers the team has had since the 2020 season. Under Brown's watch, Jake Powell solidified his name in program history, finishing in the top 10 all-time in wins among a sophomore, going 23-11 across 34 matches. Brown's athletes have also had success in the classroom, with four wrestlers earning Academic All-American honors under his watch, including Caden Canning being a two-time Academic All-American.
Brown and the rest of the Manchester High School 2024 Hall of Fame Class will be inducted on Friday, August 30th, before the first high school football game of the season.
