Former Cardinals Jordan Reid and Jarret Haines Spend Summer with West Virginia Grind

Wheeling, W. Va. - The Wheeling University Men's Basketball team's season has ended, but two former players and former assistant coaches are continuing their playing careers through spring and summer. Jordan Reid and Jarret Haines have signed contracts with the West Virginia Grind of The Basketball League (TBL). For both players, it is the second professional contract they have signed as they continue their dreams of playing basketball at the next level.

"I want to give a huge shoutout to all those who have been part of my basketball adventure," said Reid. "Wheeling has truly embraced me like family ever since 2019. A big thank you goes out to Chris [Richardson] and Carrie [Hanna] for entrusting me with the coaching role at Wheeling. Leaving the team was tough, as I poured my heart and soul into it, but the guys reciprocated that same passion every single day. They are a truly remarkable group, and they made my exit as seamless as can be."

"Never give up on something you love," Haines added. "Basketball has been a big part of my life and I thank everyone at Wheeling and beyond who has helped me reach this point in my career."

Reid and Haines's seasons have already begun as the Grind have played two games, and sit at 1-1 in TBL play, with a 135-113 win over the Lebanon Leprechauns and a 104-88 loss to the Frederick Flying Cows. Reid has served as the team's starting point guard, and is off to a hot start, scoring 44 points while picking up eight assists and 12 rebounds through the first two games of the season. He is shooting a healthy 75% from the floor and 1-4 from three-point range to start the season. Haines has also played in two games for the grind this season, and has scored 21 points while shooting 50% from the floor.

During their time in a Cardinal's uniform, both players made their mark on the Cardinal's men's basketball team, leading them to the MEC Tournament in each of their seasons in a Cardinal uniform. Reid was a three-time Second Team All-MEC award winner, while Jarett Haines took home Second Team honors one time in his career. Both are on the 1,000 point scorers list, with Reid sitting as the 18th leading scorer (1,398) and Haines sitting as the 28th leading scorer (1,243) in school history. They both got an opportunity to play overseas last year and look to bring that experience with them as they lead the West Virginia Gind through their season.

Reid, Haines, and the West Virginia Grind return to action on Sunday, March 17th, when they take on the Cincinnati Warriors at 1 PM.
