Bethany, W. Va. – As the meet schedule continues, the Wheeling University Women's Swimming team competed in their third Tri-Meet of the year Saturday. They swam at the Bethany Tri-Meet against the host Bison and Chatham and it was a big individual day for the Cardinals. They picked up six wins as a team across the 14 events of the day.
Leading the way for the Cardinals was
Lacie Langmyer, who was the lone Cardinal to pick up multiple individual wins on the day. She kicked off the day in the long-distance events, swimming in the 1000 Yard Freestyle. She took the top spot with a time of 12:01.44, to take home the first individual gold of the day and the second total gold for the team. It was also the Cardinal's biggest win of the day, with Langmyer taking the title by over a minute to start things off. Langmyer would finish the day in the long distance events, swimming in the 500-Yard Freestyle. She would once again pick up the win, swimming a time of 5:43.75 as she beat out Chatham's Alayna Kertcher by 10 seconds. It was the first multi-win effort for Langmyer as she paced the Cardinal's effort.
After Langmyer started the day with a win, the Cardinals were back in the win column six events later as
Mikayla Smitley swam the 200-yard Individual Medley. She picked up the win at 2:25.44 , earning her second race win of the season.
Grace Moorley was up next in the 100-Yard Freestyle and picked up her win with a time of 58.59.
Ana Noguera Munoz would keep the short distance success going in the 100-Yard Backstroke picking up a win at 1:05.10. The final individual win would come in the 100-Yard Breaststroke as
Jade Miller picked up a win at 1:13.12. Along with their individual wins, the Cardinals also had two relay wins, with Noguera Munoz, Smitley,
Sofia Castillo, and Sophia Gonzalez Bernal starting in the 400-Yard Relay. They picked up a win with a time of 4:24.34.
The other relay win would come courtesy of Miller, Castillo, Moorley, and
Lydie Sprecher in the 400-Yard Freestyle. They swam a time of 3:58.16 to round four the wins on the day.
Maria Jones would take fourth for the Cardinals in the 200-Yard Freestyle (2:23.28) and
Grace Moorley took third in the 50-Yard Freestyle.
Jade Miller would be the final swimmer for the Cardinals, taking 2
nd in the 100-Yard Butterfly with a time of 1:03.13.
The Wheeling University Women's Swimming Team returns to action on Saturday, November 2
nd, when they travel to IUP.
