Bethany, W. Va. – On Saturday, the early season meet scheduled continued for Wheeling Men's Swimming as they competed in Tri-Meet #3. The Cardinals traveled to nearby Bethany College as they took on Bethany and Chatham in tri-meet action. The Cardinals would win 10 of their 11 events on the night as the young team continues their success in the pool.
Leading the way for the Cardinals was Sarp Killic and
Arvid Hoglund, who each picked up multiple wins on the day. It would be Hoglund who got on the board first as he competed in the 200-Yard Freestyle. He would swim a time of 1:52.37 as he picked up his first win of the day by three seconds. Hoglund's second win came in the long distance events as he swam in the 500-Yard Freestyle. He swam a time of 5:22.66 as he picked up his largest win of the day by 38 seconds to round out his individual swims. Killic's first win came in the 200-Yard Individual Medley, where he swam a time of 2:10.19 to win by 11 seconds. He finished his day in the 100-Yard Backstroke, where he swam a time of 1:00.35.
The Cardinal's day of wins began in the 1000-Yard Freestyle as senior
Nathan Yost got things started. He swam the event in 11:27.48 to pick up his first win of the season. After Hoglund's first win, Brian Kirby was up next as he won the 50-Yard Freestyle with a time of 23.12.
Evan Yost was up next, swimming in the 100-Yard Butterfly, and took the top spot at 55.54.
Gustav Lofqvist would earn the lone second place finish for the Cardinals in the 100-Yard Freestyle (50.41) before Sarp Killic and Hoglund got back-to-back wins to get the Cardinals on the board. The final win of the day came from
Alex Ferebee, who picked up his first win of the season. Ferebee would swim the 100-Yard Breaststroke in 1:12.56 to round out the individual swims.
The final two Cardinal wins came in the relays, with the 200 Yard Medley Relay kicking things off. Ferebee,
Evan Yost, Lofqvist, and
Nathan Reigel took home the Wheeling win with a time of 3:56.15. The 400-Yard Freestyle Relay wrapped things up with Evan and
Nathan Yost, Killic and Hoglund wrapping things up. The foursome swam a time of 3:19.72.
The Wheeling University Men's Swimming team returns to action on Saturday, November 2
nd, when they compete against IUP.
