Wheeling, W. Va. – Over the last several games, the Wheeling University Men's Basketball team (5-10, 2-7) has been locked in close battles with Frostburg State, Glenville State, and Concord. On Wednesday, they look to get back in the win column as they return to the Alma Grace McDonough Center as they host Notre Dame College at 7:30 PM. It is the second of back-to-back games inside the Alma Grace McDonough Center, where the Cardinals are 3-3 in their six games played this season.
Wheeling Men's Basketball is coming off a close loss to Concord, but they have also done a lot of good things in these close games. The most recent game showed that with Marcus Johnson scoring 28 points and three of his teammates had 10 plus points, so it was an overall productive game they just came up a little bit short. The Cardinals trailed 44-40 after the first half but were looking to be more efficient from the floor after shooting 37.21% (16-43). They did just that when they came out for the second half, upping that mark to 50% (20-40), and as a result increased their scoring to 48 points. However, they were outscored 50-48 and would end up falling 94-88 to move to 5-10 overall and 2-7 in MEC (Mountain East Conference) play. Wheeling will look to build off this game and finish out the season strong.
Wheeling will be relying heavily on the guys that have gotten it done all year for them when they take on Notre Dame College and 6 foot 7 forward Marcus Johnson will be one of those guys that they will need to step up. He has all year as he is averaging 22 PPG, shooting at 48
percent, and has 18 steals, so he is doing it all on for the team. Another player they will be relying on is Sean Ealy who is averaging 13 PPG, shooting at 82 percent from the line, and has a three-point shooting percentage of 42.
Notre Dame College has plenty of firepower as well with 6-foot 5 guard Devin Haid who is averaging 13 PPG, shooting at 45 percent, and has 24 steals on the season, so much like Johnson for Wheeling Haid also does it all for his team. RJ Ogom is also a player that has been very solid for Notre Dame this season as he is an impressive 93 percent at the free-throw line and is has a shooting percentage of 47, so he is a player Wheeling will want to watch out for.
This will be the second matchup of the year against Notre Dame College with Notre Dame winning that matchup 79-66 and this will be the 23rd matchup all-time between the schools dating back to 2013, so they have a bit of history and every time they match up the games are typically close and exciting which this one will be no doubt much of the same.
