Cardinal Alumni Lowell Patron Set for 2023 XFL Combine

Wheeling, W. Va. - Two weeks ago, former Wheeling University Wide Receiver Lowell Patron participated in the XFL Showcase event in Washington, D.C. and earned an invite to the 2023 XFL Combine. On Monday afternoon, Patron will be flying down to Arlington, Texas to join several other college athletes as they try and make their case to be drafted into the XFL. The 2023 XFL Combine kicks off on Tuesday, July 25th and runs through Thursday, July 27th, as Patron begins his journey towards becoming the first-ever Wheeling Football player to be drafted into a professional football league.

Patron earned his invite to the XFL Combine back on July 9th, when he competed at the XFL's showcase event in Washington, D.C. Patron was one of around 300 athletes that took the field that day inside the Jones-Hill House on the campus of the University of Maryland, competing in front of several XFL scouts. The athletes were put through a series of drills to display their speed, power, and jumping ability. Patron excelled in all three areas and right after the showcase concluded, he got offered an invite to the XFL Combine. The XFL held six different showcases across the country for perspective athletes and the best of the best in each showcase was offered an invite to Arlington.

Now that the stage moves to Arlington, where things will be taken to the next level in front of all eight XFL head coaches and Front Office staff. The players will go through many of the same drills they did during the showcase events, but will also add different elements such as testing the athletes football IQ as well as going through interview sessions with the teams in attendance. The final two days of the combine will be streamed live on the XFL's YouTube Channel so you can watch Patron and the other athletes in action.
