Canton, OH. – After sending a pair of swimmers to the finals on day two, the Wheeling University Men's Swimming team was back at it with two more finals qualifiers on day three of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC)/Mountain East Conference (MEC) Championships. The Cardinals continued their successful swims, as both
Ethan Banks and
Nathan Yost picked up top 10 finished in the conference on the day. It was their best day of the championships so far and brings their final swim total to six across the three-day event.
Nathan Yost once again led the way as he qualified for his third finals event of the championship event. He would swim in the 200 Yard Butterfly after setting an eight second PR in the morning with a time of 2:04.47 and qualified for the B Finals, his second B Final appearance of the tournament. While he wouldn't quite hit the PR mark in the finals of the event, but he still had a solid swim, finishing 8th in the MEC (15th overall) with a time of 2:05.12. Yost has now swam in three finals events during this Championship event and this was Yost's best career finish as he looks for similar success moving into the final day tomorrow.
The other Cardinals swimmer was
Ethan Banks, who was back in the distance events, swimming in the 500 Yard Freestyle. He would qualify for the B Finals, his second B Final appearance of the event, with a time of 5:00.65. He came back for the nightcap and ended up taking ninth in the MEC (15th overall). He finished our with a 5:02.21 to secure 12 more points for his team. Both swimmers continue their progression this season as they look to add more finals event appearances to their list on day four of competition.
