Canton, OH. – On Tuesday, the Wheeling University Women's Swimming team got the 2023 Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC)/Mountain East Conference (MEC) Championships started strong when they sent three individuals to the finals. The team doubled that number on day two as they had six individuals and the 400 Yard Medley Relay team take to the pool. Two Cardinals earned All-MEC honors, bringing the Cardinals total All-MEC count to three for the event.
Leading the way was
Gabby Baiano, who after swimming in the distance event yesterday, moved to the short game in the 200 Yard Freestyle. Baiano qualified for the B Finals in the morning event, swimming a time of 2:00.17 and putting herself in line for a possible MEC Championship. However, she would end up taking 2nd in the MEC (13th overall) with a time of 1:59.59 as she continues her strong championship event. The other All-MEC honoree for the Cardinals was
Jade Miller, who took home her second All-MEC award of the tournament. She qualified for the A Finals in the event and was swimming for the overall championship. She would end up taking 8th overall (3rd in the MEC) with a time of 4:55.66. The Cardinals only had one All-MEC swimmer last season and have already eclipsed that number in just two days of competition.
The Cardinals began the final swims with two Cardinals swimming in the 100 Yard Butterfly. Senior

Olivia Moyer would join her, qualifying for her first final event of the championship when she swam in the C Finals. Aftwr swimming a 1:02.53 in the morning, Moyer came back and lowered her time by .67 seconds in the finals. She would take 7th in the MEC (18th overall) finishing with a time of 1:01.86. The final two finals qualifiers also swam in the C Finals with
Marra Johnson swimming in the 400 IM and
Caitlin Oltman in the 200 Freestyle. Johnson would finish with a PR in the 400 IM, swimming a time of 4:50.67 and finishing 6th in the MEC (17th overall). Oltman would take 7th in the MEC (24th overall) in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 2:03.50.

The trio would take third in the MEC (6th overall) with a time of 4:08.47 to earn the first team All-MEC award of the tournament. Miller picks up her third All-MEC honor of the event and her first team honor as she leads the group so far. The two Cardinals who did not qualify for the finals were
Maria Jones and
Elizabeth Strange, but each had strong showings in the morning events. Both would swim in the 100 Yard Butterfly with Jones taking 30th overall (1:10.38) and Strange taking 34th (1:14.13).
