Yost/Banks Both Qualify for Finals on Day Two of GMAC/MEC Championships

Canton, OH. – When the program was revitalized back in 2020-21 the program was looking to return to its former glory. On Day two of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC)/Mountain East Conference (MEC) championships the Cardinals took a step towards doing just that. For the first time since the program's revitalization, the team sent two athletes to the Finals as Nathan Yost and Ethan Banks each swam in the night cap of the day.

Sophomore Nathan Yost led the way, qualifying in two different events on the night. His first event of the night was the 100 Butterfly where he qualified for the C Final, the second final event of Yost's career. He would swim a 54.16 in the morning and finished the day with a big PR, lowering that time by .53 seconds. He would finish 11th in the MEC (21st overall) with a time of 53.63 to get his night started. He came back as the team's top qualifier two events later in the 200 Freestyle, where he once again qualified for the C Final. Yost would finish in 1th in the MEC once again (20th overall) with a time of 1:48.98. It was a big day overall for Yost as he continues to progress in his sophomore season.

The other finals qualifier on the day for the Cardinals was junior Ethan Banks, who joined Yost in the C Final of the 200 Freestyle. Banks would set a PR in the morning preliminaries, swimming a time of 1:49.94, and qualified for his first final swim of the event. He swam just a hair slower in the finals, but was able to take 14th in the MEC (25th overall) swimming a 1:50.39. Banks continues to be a leader for this team down the stretch and looks for continued success over the final two days of competition.

The Wheeling University Men's Swimming team returns to the pool for day three of the GMAC/MEC Championships on Thursday with the preliminary race at 10 AM followed by the finals at 6 PM. You can follow along with Live Results by clicking HERE or watch it live by clicking HERE.
