Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Drops MEC Opener to Notre Dame College

Wheeling, W. Va. – It was the start of Mountain East Conference (MEC) play on Saturday as Wheeling Men's Basketball (1-3, 0-1) made the trip to South Euclid, Ohio. The Cardinals put together a big second half effort, scoring 35 second half points, but it wasn't enough as they fell to the Falcons 79-66. Marcus Johnson continued his success, scoring a team-high 29 points on the night as he led the way for the third time this season.

Wheeling Men's Basketball was able to get their first win on Tuesday over D'Youville 82-76 and they were hoping to carry that momentum into Saturday's game, but they were, unfortunately, unable to get the win in their first MEC action of the season as they went down 79-66 which isn't the way they wanted things to go, but it was still a close game and they can look at the positives that they had and carry that into the next game.

One of the big positives that they can look at is the great play of Marcus Johnson to start the season who had 29 points in the loss and is still averaging 20 points a game while also shooting at 43 percent. The game was also very close pretty much the entire time and after the first half they were only down by 12 which wasn't a very steep hill to climb and Notre Dame College only outscored Wheeling by one in the second quarter.

Wheeling has some things that they can work on reflecting on from this game, but they shouldn't take only the negative from it because as the season goes on they will begin to build chemistry which it seems they already have with the last game and how many different players scored as well as the game on Saturday where overall they played well, but they just need a little more depth scoring as the season progresses.

Wheeling Men's Basketball will be at it again on Tuesday where they will be playing their first home game of the season at 7:30 inside Alma Grace McDonough Center - Performance Gym, so make sure to get your tickets and to come out in support of the Men's Basketball team.
