Wheeling, W. Va. –The Wheeling University Homecoming & Family Weekend wrapped up on Saturday night with a special evening matchup for the Wheeling University Women's Soccer team (3-7-1, 1-6-1). They battled the University of Charleston in the night cap and, despite a strong defensive effort, fell to the Golden Eagles 4-0. Wheeling was efficient in their shooting throughout the night, putting six of their nine shots on net, but they were unable to sneak any past the Charleston defense.
The University of Charleston came to play on Saturday they were able to score two quick goals in the first half with the first goal being from a weird angle which was a bit unfortunate for Wheeling and the second goal coming 27:24 was just a very good passing play by Charleston.
Wheeling was very much in this game in the first half and if the ball bounced the way they wanted the score would have been tied, but unfortunately, they had a shot that was perfectly placed hitting the crossbar and a prime scoring chance that was stopped by a really good save. They had 6 shots on goal and
Talynn DeBartolo having three of them and Olivia Kqria having a solid game.
Charleston's best players came out and played a really solid game with Laura Vierhout who is second on the team in goals having two of the scores and Juliette Lucas who leads the team in goals had 1 goal and an assist along with 4 shots on goal, so she was everywhere during this game.
The ball just didn't bounce the way Wheeling wanted in this game, but they can look at the good things that they did against a really good Charleston team and use that for their next game which will be a really important one because they aren't out of the playoff hunt yet, so it will be a big game.
You can catch Wheeling Women's Soccer on Wednesday, October 11th at 4 PM on Bishop Schmitt field where they will be taking on West Virginia Wesleyan.
