Men's Soccer Drops Homecoming Tilt Against Charleston

Wheeling, W. Va. –On Saturday, the Wheeling University Men's Soccer team (0-10-1, 0-8-1) continued the Homecoming and Family Weekend Festivities at Bishop Schmitt Field. They hosted the University of Charleston in a Mountain East Conference (MEC) matchup. The Cardinals battled throughout the night, but we're unable to break through the Golden Eagles defense as they fell 4-0.

Saturday's game started with two quick goals in the first half from the University of Charleston men's soccer team with the first one coming at 22:51 and the second at 28:45 and they never really looked back as they added two more in the second half ending the game with 4 goals with one of the two in the second being a penalty kick which is always an exciting play.

Wheeling has struggled to get the offense going this season, but that is not to say that they haven't had chances during the game with getting a lot of pressure on the goalie at the end of the first half and Sam Clark had a decent game with one shot on goal which may not seem like much, but he was very noticeable in the game.

The combination of Juan Hermoso and Franco Tradatti was especially good as they combined for two of Charleston's goals which wasn't surprising as Hermoso was second on the team in goals and Tradatti came into the game leading the team in assists. Marc Torrado was also a big reason for the win stopping all the shots against him in the game and he improved to 8 and 0 on the season.

Overall, the game wasn't what Wheeling wanted, but they can look at this game in a positive way as they had some good chances and goaltending was strong against a really good Charleston team, so they will just have to build off some of the positives that they saw and go into the next game stronger.

You can catch Wheeling Men's Soccer on Wednesday, October 11th at 7:30 on Bishop Schmitt field where they will be taking on West Virginia Wesleyan.
