Men's Soccer Heads to Beckley to Face Concord

Wheeling, W. Va. – After kicking off the month of October at home, the Wheeling University Men's Soccer team (0-8-1, 0-6-1) will hit the road for one of just four times in the month of October on Wednesday. They make the drive down to Beckley, West Virginia, when they take on Concord with kick-off at 4 PM. Over their last two games the offense has created more and more scoring chances and they look to continue that as they continue the stretch run.

The Cardinals are looking to bounce back from Sunday's game against Davis and Elkins College who defeated them 3 to 1, but the game was close and Wheeling had some positives. Julio D'Lima who had his first goal of the season and after the first half they were able to lock down on defense which are things they can carry into the game Wednesday against Concord.

The history between these two teams is a long one that dates back to 2002 when they played for the first time where Wheeling won 5 to 1 and they never really looked back going onto win 16 games and only 6 losses which is a very impressive record that shows that Wheeling has always had the edge on them. They already had one matchup this year on September 17th, and the game ended in a tie which was the 4th tie of the matchup.

Wheeling has had a rough start to the season, but this is a game where they can take what they have done in the past as motivation to beat Concord and get a win streak going for the season, that means that their best players are going to have to step up like TJ Cherry who plays a very solid defensive game, but also leads the team in goals and goalie Carlos Molina who has a GAA of 2.83 and a SV% of 0.575.

Concord is coming off a tie on Sunday, so they are hoping that they can get a goal on the board and start to even up this long history that they have had with Wheeling and that will start with their best goal scorers stepping up like Fabian Amhof who has 3 goals on the season and Tomas Kelly who has two goals. Wheeling will also have to really step up the offense because Concord's starting goalie has some pretty insane stats going into Wednesday's game with a GAA of 0.93 and a SV% of 0.837, so he will be a big factor in the game for Concord.
