Jade Miller Named MEC Women’s Swimmer of the Week After Gold Medal Filled Weekend

Wheeling, W. Va. - The Mountain East Conference (MEC) released their final MEC Player of the Week awards, presented by the Healthplan, on Tuesday as they named the Men's and Women's Swimmers of the Week. The Wheeling University Women's Swimming team had a big week in the pool this weekend, going 3-0 in their pair of meets and were honored by the conference. Junior Jade Miller was named the MEC Female Swimmer of the Week, after winning first place in every event she swam in throughout the weekend.

After opening MEC play a week ago, the Cardinals jumped into their non-conference schedule this past week, with a pair of meets. The weekend began on Friday, when the Cardinals took on Washington & Jefferson college and Allegheny College in a non-conference tri-meet. In total, the team won eight different events on the night as they picked up wins of 143-101 over the Presidents and 138-94 over the Gators. They would return to their home pool for the first time this season on Saturday, as they raced against West Virginia Tech. It was another big day for the Cardinals as they had a swimmer win every event of the afternoon as they went on to beat WV Tech 121-43. The team has won three straight tri-meets dating back to last Saturday and sits 4-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

For Miller, it was an especially challenging week as she was swimming in her non-main events, but she handled the challenge head on. Of her seven first place finishes during the weekend, four of them came on Friday as she picked up wins in the 100-Yard Butterfly (1:02.41), 100-Yard Breaststroke (1:11.18), and the 100-Yard Individual Medley (1:04.12). She was also a part of the first place 200-Yard Medley Relay team that finished first with a time of 1:58.31 to round out her day. That momentum would propel her into Saturday, where she began with another relay victory as part of the 400-Yard Medley Relay that posted a time of 4:27.61. She would close out the event with wins in the 1000-Yard Freestyle (11:58.41) and the 400-Yard Individual Medley (5:04.24) to finish out her seven-win weekend.

Miller is the 11th Wheeling University student-athlete to earn conference player of the week honors this season, and the fourth award winner this week. She joins Wheeling Volleyball players Tylah Yeomans and Mady Winters and Women's Soccer player Mary DiFonzo as this week's award winners. For Miller, it is the fourth time she has earned the conference player of the week award in her career, after taking it home twice during her freshman year and once during her sophomore season.

Jade Miller and the Wheeling University Women's Swimming team return to action on Saturday, October 28th, when they swim a tri-meet against Bethany and Chatham.
