Wheeling, W. Va. – After spending a lot of time on their home floor throughout the month of October, the Wheeling University Volleyball team (15-6, 6-1) hits the road for a pair of matches this weekend. They open things up on Friday when they take on Concord at 7 PM, And wrap up the weekend on Saturday at Glenville State with tip off at 2 PM. With eight games remaining on the regular season slate, the Cardinals are looking to build momentum down the stretch that they prepare for the 2023 Mountain East Conference (MEC) Tournament.
The Women's Volleyball team had a big win on Tuesday against Shepherd where they were able keep their great play going with really solid play from the whole team. They were able to put up 42 kills and 37 total assists which showed how much they were able to spread the ball around. The win helped keep the Cardinals on the right path in regional play, moving them to 7-2 against Regional opponents.
On Friday Wheeling will be traveling to Concord to take on Mountain Lions in a Mountain East Comference (MEC) matchup. The two programs have a lot of history, with the first match being played in 1992 and they have a all-time record of 26-2 against them. Wheeling is rocking a 15-6 record while on the other side Concord comes in with a 14-7 rrcog so it should be a good match. Last time the two teams met it was Wheeling that came away with the 3-0 victory.
Cassidey Wiley led the way with seven kills in that match while former Cardinal Reagan Rosi added 13 digs.
Wheeling will look to their top players in this matchup against Concord like
Tylah Yeomans who leads the team with two 270 kills which has her second in the MEC.
Karly Niesen, who leads the team in total assists with 710, has led the Cardinals to four matches this year with a +.300 hitting percentage as she continues to set up her hitters. On the Concord side, Meg Williams leads the charge with 315 kills and Chloe Thompson who is second on the team with 654 total assists.
Wheeling continues their weekend play with a match the very next day on Saturday against Glenville State University who they have been playing against since 1992. Wheeling has an all-time record of 28-4 against them, so it should be another great match on Saturday.
Serving has been a big strength for the Wheeling Volleyball team and they have great depth.
Riley Kindall leads the team with 11 service aces,
Karly Niesen adds nine, and
Abbey Queen also has nine, so they will be big factors this weekend. Glenville will be looking to their leaders on the team to help them in this matchup with Katarzyna Niderla who leads the team with 188 kills and Sydney Goodrich who leads the team with 478 total assists.
