Wheeling, W. Va. – The Wheeling University Men's Swimming team invited Fairmont State in Mountain East Conference dual meet action on Saturday. The team saw the debut of one of their newest members as they dropped the team portion of the event 158.5-27.5. The team combined to pick up one win on the day as they competed throughout the afternoon.
The lone win on the day for the Cardinals came in the very first event of the evening for the men. Sophomore
Nathan Yost took the pool. He competed in the 1000 Yard Freestyle and got off to a hot start from lap one. He kept that momentum going throughout the race and earned his first collegiate win. He swam a 10:50.93 to set a new PR in the event and got the team started on the right foot. It was the first of a strong day of events for the sophomore as he picked up second and third place finishes. He would take second in the 50 Freestyle (23.64) and third in the 200 Yard Backstroke (2:12.03). It wrapped up what was a strong day for the sophomore as he heads down the MEC Championship.
Fellow sophomore Rua Karimazondo made his Wheeling Swimming debut, also racing in three races. He made his debut in the 50 Yard Freestyle and picked up a fourth place finish with a time of 24.46. His other two events saw him take home fifth place finishes to round out his day. He swam in the 100 Yard Freestyle (57.34) and the 200 Yard Breaststroke (3:16.17) to round things out. Junior
Ethan Banks rounded things out with three races of his own and added a second place finish to his team's ledger. That second place finish came in the 100 Yard Freestyle, where he swam a 53.06 to round out the night. While the team didn't win the dual, it was a strong swim for the individuals as they continue to grow the program.
The Wheeling University Men's Swimming team returns to action on Saturday, January 28th when they take on Chatham at 1 PM.
