Frostburg, MD. – After starting the week at home with a surprise meet against Salem, the Wheeling University Men's Swimming team was back in the pool Saturday as they hit the road. The Cardinals had several top three finishes on the day as they continue their strong run towards the MEC Championships. Both
Nathan Yost and
Ethan Banks had strong swims on the night and cap off what has been an overall big weekend for the duo.
Nathan Yost began the day, swimming in three events and taking home two top three finishes on the afternoon. His best swim came in his leadoff event as he took home silver in the 200 Short Course Meter Butterfly. He was going against two Bobcats as well as one West Virginia Wesleyan swimmer and took home second place in the field. He swam a 2:30.33 for the event as he kicked off a strong day. Up next was the 100 Meter Butterfly and it was another top three finish as Yost took home third in the field. He would beat out three racers, two Frostburg and one West Virginia Wesleyan, and finished with a time of 1:05.57. he rounded out his day in the 200 Meter Individual Medley and took home fourth with a time of 2:30.29 to round out his weekend.
Ethan Banks also saw action in three events on the day and brought home one of his team's three top three finishes on the night. His best race was also his first as he competed in the 200 Meter Freestyle. It was a close race between the top three swimmers in the field, with less than two seconds separating the three swimmers. Banks took third in the field, posting a time of 2:11.68 as he took home his second top three finish of the weekend. He was back in the pool a few events later in the 200 Meter Backstroke and picked up a fourth place finish to add to his day. He swam a 2:35.73 and beat out Frostburg State's Matthew Rottman by just over a second. Banks finished out the day in a distance event, swimming in the 400 Meter Freestyle, where he swam a 4:41.08 to bring his weekend to an end.
The Wheeling University Men's Swimming team returns to action on Saturday, January 21st, when they host Fairmont State with the first events set to begin at 1 PM.
